Came on yesterday. In 3rd above 35oo rpms the motor shudders and the CEL blinks off and on then goes out. Searching the forums it looks like I'm changing the coil packs this weekend.

I've heard that the 1.8T devours coil packs.

I HAAAATTEEEE Hitachi, but these might be a good alternative.

Not so much shudders as explodes into a glorious symphony of oil, metal particulate and strangely enough Polka music.

Yup, most likely coils. Go ahead and replace all of them...if one's going the rest are on borrowed time. Seen it on lots of VAG products. Luckily it's a cheap and easy fix.

Yeah everything I'm reading says keep a few spares in the trunk.

Exactly. At least it's a quick procedure.

check the codes and see which cylinder misfires! You shouldnt have to replace all of them

1.8t eats coil packs. I'm in there I'll just replace them all.

You might also think of doing the plugs while you're in there if you haven't changed them in a while.

If you run a citroën at 35k it plays daft punk.

They're so cheap & fail often enough that it's worth doing them all then keeping the good old ones as spares. They've been through at least 8 part number supercessions and they're still shit.

And an LS Motor plays Sweet Home Alabama.

Last year. I'll inspect but they should be good.

ha I wonder what it is. I have heard that about those but have avoided 1.8T powered cars like the plague after seeing friends all have t-belt issues

I think it's mostly heat. I recommend ditching the engine cover, it seems to help. I'm no fan of the 1.8t, but they can last a long time with fastidious & proactive maintenance.
